17 years’ “Abfallratgeber Bayern”

note 16.10.2017

The “Bavarian Waste Guide” (“Abfallratgeber Bayern” - ARBA) is an online information system (www.abfallratgeber-bayern.de) of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection (“Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Umwelt- und Verbraucherschutz”) and the Bavarian State Environmental Agency (Bayerischen Landesamt für Umwelt). ARBA was developed at the end of the 1990s. The bifa environmental institute in Augsburg has been involved in operating the site since 2000.

ARBA is a guide to the disposal and handling of waste. The user can visit the site at any time to obtain a quick, up-to-date overview of waste topics. It is aimed at private persons and businesses, especially small and medium-sized companies without waste professionals. The information system is also there to help people who are more knowledgeable. Not only information on legal texts but also information issued by the public sector and authorities, mainly in Bavaria, is also available to users.

Waste consultants of the Bavarian territorial areas and waste experts of the public sector, and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry can use this platform to distribute their waste management information.

ARBA is starting its 17th year and has developed continuously since it was first started. It is currently presenting itself in its new design and is now even better tailored to accessing the site using mobile devices. The offer is divided into five areas: The “Households” part provides offers and information for interested citizens, e.g. waste avoidance tips or information on reuse, “Trades” is aimed at tradespersons, e.g. with industry concepts, specific waste avoidance and disposal information and on the import/export of waste. The “Regulations” area collates relevant legal framework information from the EU, Germany, Bavaria and the Bavarian cities, towns and rural districts. The legal requirements are each accompanied by a short description with citation, contents and scope, and some include an explanation, with which important content of the regulations is made accessible without prior legal knowledge. The “Publications” area offers publications on specific waste management aspects. In the “Advice” part the user obtains contact information for local waste consultants and waste experts.
