Biowaste in large housing estates: LUBW work folder now available

note 07.07.2020

Below-average quantities of biowaste are frequently generated in large housing estates and the biowaste tends to contain an above-average fraction of, for example, plastics.

Working on behalf of Baden-Württemberg’s State Environmental Institute (LUBW – Landesanstalt für Umwelt Baden-Württemberg), bifa developed a work folder for improving biowaste collection in large housing estates. The work folder was tested and developed further in a model project in the cities of Heilbronn, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart. The waste management and building management firms of large housing estates in the municipalities involved provided many valuable tips for revision of the documents to tailor then to the actual needs. bifa moderated the model project with interviews and workshops.

Guidelines, campaign modules and tools for implementation on site

The work folder contains a compilation of technical, organisational and communicative measures, with which biowaste collection in large housing estates can be improved. It consists of guidelines, more than 20 campaign modules and numerous tools for implementation on site.

The Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector in Baden-Württemberg initiated and funded the project.

The work folder is available now at with this link .
