Hydrogen system study: Environment Minister Glauber presents funding notification

note 07.10.2020

The Bavarian Minister of State for the Environment and Consumer Protection, Thorsten Glauber, and Dr Fabian Mehring, Member of the Landtag and Whip of the Freien Wähler party, visited bifa on 5/10/2020 to find out about the institute’s current activities.

Minister of State Glauber handed over to the bifa Umweltinstitut a grant notification worth up to Euro 155,000 for the “Hydrogen system study on producing hydrogen from waste” project. The objective of the project is to answer the following questions regarding thermochemical hydrogen production from waste in Bavaria:

  • What options for action are available?
  • What is the technical, economic and realisable potential of these options?
  • Which boundary conditions must be created in order to realise the potential?

The system study integrates technical, economic, ecological and societal aspects. It focuses on commercial waste; other waste streams will be considered additionally. Work on the project is based on the current structural circumstances and the market environment in Bavaria. Practical orientation and realistic implementation of the results are being ensured by integrating relevant stakeholders from industry, associations and municipalities. The project has a period of one year.

The “UMWELTNETZWERK” (environmental network) of bifa’s actively involved project partner, KUMAS - Kompetenzzentrum Umwelt e.V., unites numerous hydrogen experts, contributes through its network support and contacts to potential interview and workshop participants. It also provides support for the project’s PR work.
