A new climate protection concept for Landkreis Ostallgäu

The Landkreis Ostallgäu district would like to further strengthen its engagement in climate protection. It considers implementing climate protection within its own area of authority as well as getting the whole district to work towards the implementation as an essential and top priority task. This required a fundamental reformulation of the climate protection concept of 2012, which was no longer apposite. Working in close cooperation with the district administration, bifa headed the process to produce the new concept.

Adaptation to climate change for companies in the timber construction industry

Climate change has arrived in Germany and with it an observable accumulation of heat waves in summer. The increase in hot days and rising air temperatures impair the performance of employees on construction sites and in workshops. In addition, rising ozone concentrations and increased UV radiation can lead to serious health hazards such as cardiovascular problems or an increased risk of skin cancer.

Textile cycles and sustainability - bifa is a partner at Recycling Atelier

Every year around five million tons of used textiles accumulate worldwide. Of this, only about 1% is recycled - over 70% is energetically utilized or landfilled. The Recycling Atelier of the Augsburg Institute for Textile Technology (ITA) and the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is the world's first model factory dedicated entirely to the sustainable material cycle in textile production. It is the center for research and development along the entire textile recycling value chain.

New publication bifa-Text-No. 72: Potentials of a hydrogen production by gasification of commercial waste

bifa Umweltinstitut GmbH publishes current study results at the Bavarian Waste and Landfill Days in Augsburg with the new publication of bifa text no. 72. Can hydrogen be produced from commercial waste if it is not recycled? The process suitable for this is gasification - a thermochemical process in which a carbon-containing feedstock is converted into a product gas at temperatures between 500 °C and 1,200 °C. The potential of such hydrogen production is being explored in the currently completed bifa study.

Even if you can‘t see them: Bacteria and fungi, usually present in small numbers in the air, are continuously introduced into ventilation systems. In the 1986 Waste Act, the "3-V rule" (avoid-reduce-recycle) was codified. Growing mountains of waste nevertheless remained a problem, but no one wanted new landfills.
