Biotest methods in biogas plants

As part of Bavaria's high-tech offensive, the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology (Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Infrastruktur, Verkehr und Technologie) gave bifa the task of carrying out tests and simulations of the feeding of biogas plants. Tools were developed, which support safe operation of a biogas plant.

Forecast software for biogas plant characteristics

An important element is forecast software based on laboratory tests and computer models; with this software the fermentation performance can be evaluated by inputting biogas plant characteristics (residence time, volumetric loading…) and specific substrate properties.

Safety and process stability for biogas plants

Used in combination with important measured parameters from a biogas plant, the specific operational reliability and process stability can therefore be evaluated quickly and forecast for the future. The forecast can then be used to develop recommendations for the process control, such as substrate selection and feed quantities. An instrument is therefore available to biogas plant operators, which enables them to more easily make improved statements on the biological process. The project was carried out in cooperation with Finsterwalder Umwelttechnik.
