Landkreis Rosenheim collects kitchen waste in its recycling depots

To this end, containers for collecting household biowaste from food preparation will be installed in the district‘s recycling depots. In total the Landkreis (rural district) has more than 42 recycling depots; one in virtually every local community of the Landkreis.

bifa Umweltinstitut GmbH and AU Consult are providing advice and assistance during the gradual introduction of a bring collection system for kitchen waste in the recycling depots in Landkreis Rosenheim.

Due to the legal obligation to collect all the constituent parts of biowaste separately, the Landkreis must examine the way in which the different collection options function. Extensive, long-term experience already exists for the green waste constituent (garden and park waste) and its collection in the bring system. However, the composition and nature of kitchen and food waste differ significantly from that of green waste.

Extensive experience of separate collection of pure kitchen and food waste in the bring system is lacking to date throughout Bavaria.

Therefore, initial experience is to be collected in the Landkreis and in further development stages adjustments will be made to the collection as well as the emptying of the containers in the recycling depot and transport of the collected waste to the recycling or recovery plant. In this way, a bring system is being introduced gradually.

In advance of the project start, recommendations were worked up regarding the choice of recycling depots, collection in households and in the recycling depots, and possible recycling and recovery channels and plants. In stage 1 the introduction of the system is being assisted with PR work and a user survey at the recycling depot, which will then be evaluated for the following stages.
