The climate adaptation concept adopted in 2016 will be further developed in the context of urban and climatic changes and the aspect of the climate-resilient city will be increasingly focused on.In order to be prepared as the state capital of Munich for the unavoidable consequences of climate change, the “Concept of measures for adapting to climate change in the state capital of Munich” was developed in 2016

With a total of 30 new measures, essential basic works, such as the climate function map from 2014 and the maximum groundwater level map, are now being updated and the concerns of climate adaptation - including water-sensitive urban development in accordance with the sponge city principle - are being incorporated into urban planning in greater depth. The topics of "heavy rain prevention" and "heat action planning" are taken up and further city-wide steps are prepared. In addition, the aim is to redesign the public space and create important foundations for the implementation of greening measures in the street space. In addition, the City of Munich is increasingly implementing facade and roof greening. Both climate protection and climate adaptation goals are pursued and the combination possibilities of photovoltaics and greening are taken up. In addition, the City of Munich is expanding the "Green in the City" funding program to strengthen climate adaptation measures in private areas. In addition to the strategic, structural and planning measures, the concept also focuses on raising awareness of vulnerable groups and specialist staff for the topic of health and heat.

The concept was updated as part of a cross-departmental participation process, which bifa accompanied and moderated.
