Climate adaptation in Regensburg - research project

The tangible, visible and audible climate adaptation of a city - that is the goal of the project. The example of the "Stone City" of Regensburg will be used to show how climate resilience can be directly and immediately experienced by residents and visitors.

How climate-resilient urban planning can succeed. How, for example, oases of shade, bubbling fountains or cool blue corners can revitalize historic squares even in the height of summer. In a multi-stage participatory process with local actors from politics, administration, business and civil society, their ideas and wishes for the "climate-resilient city" are to be explored, made visible and utilized for urban planning, particularly at the level of the senses. This innovative approach via sensory impressions and perception processes should also help to question self-evident facts and break down conventional thought patterns in order to develop and pilot new solutions for a climate-resilient Regensburg. The project consists of the following steps:

With this joint project, bifa and the city of Regensburg want to transport the topic of climate resilience much more broadly into the urban society than previous analyses or measures have been able to do: They are to be actively involved in the research process in order to develop new solutions "with all senses" and to make climate resilience directly and immediately tangible. The upcoming replanning of certain squares in the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town offer a unique opportunity in this regard.
